To get the most out of your candle you should know how to burn it correctly. Following these guidelines will ensure you get the maximum burn time out of your candle.
Safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn candles out of reach of children and pets. Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.
First Burn
When lighting your candle for the first time, it is important to let the pool of melted wax reach 0.5 to 1 cm (¼ to ½ inches) of the outside edge from the top face of the candle This will allow the candle to build up its rigid wax surrounding into a memory ring and avoid tunnelling. For Dots and Grid, this will take around 4 hours.
Flame
Dots and Grid come pretrimmed and ready to light. After the first burn, you should trim the wick to around 5mm (½ inch) from the top of the candle. This ensures the candle will burn evenly with a clean flame. Too long and it is likely to smoke. Too short and the candle won't burn properly and is likely to go out. The flame should not exceed 5 cm (2 inches).
Environment
Always place your candles on a heat-resistant surface like a bowl, a candle holder or a plate. If any wax gets on any surface, let it cool, gently peel off the wax and wipe the surface with alcohol wipes to get rid of any excess residue. Keeping your candles out of direct sunlight will also make them last longer.
